Flash Forward
Previously on FlashForward, there was a global blackout. And flash forwards. Except for one person who remained awake.
We open in a school yard, where the kids have all presumably blacked out. Except for Benford’s daughter, Charlie, who’s standing there watching. Oh wait, the kids are playing a new game called “blackout” and they all wake up and talk about what they “saw”. When one of the kids asks Charlie what she saw, she says it’s none of their business. A teacher comes by to break up the ruckus and Charlie takes off in a run, only to be stopped by various tanks and army personnel who are close by.
Mark is at an AA meeting, where one member is just complaining about the inevitable future. Mark tells the guy to shut up and then he and Aaron talk about the flashes after the meeting. Aaron thinks that everyone in the world is dealing with the same thing and thinks that it is binding people together.
At the FBI, Stanford is telling the team that more agents have resigned since the blackout. He says they need to get their sh*t together. The DHS Deputy Secretary, Anastasia, arrives, and is a bit miffed that this one field office has taken it upon itself to investigate the cause of the blackout. Mark replies that they’re supposed to (because of his flash) so she can shut it. Then he and Olivia get called to Charlie’s school.
The principal is trying to explain what happened and that Charlie won’t talk about what she saw. The principal thinks that the Benfords should ask Charlie what she saw. At the playground, Mark says that he assumes Charlie was with Olivia in the flash, and Olivia again denies that she will have an affair. Mark thinks Charlie might have seen the other man and they need to reassure Charlie that they’re still together.
Anastasia is still giving the FBI team a hard time about the mosaic website. Janis takes the time to explain the website and the fact that the program is trying to find patterns. Apparently the team thinks this didn’t happen by accident, because it happened at exactly the top of the hour, but Anastasia thinks that they’re pulling at straws. Stanford shows her the video of the one person who was awake at the stadium. She looks intrigued.
Olivia is taking Charlie back to the hospital, which is surrounded by army personnel. Inside, Olivia sends Charlie off and is greeted by Lloyd Simcoe. She instantly recognizes him from her flash. He doesn’t give any indication that he knows her, but we see in her flash that he may not have seen her in the flash, because his back is always to her. We learn that Dylan Simcoe is autistic and that his mother died in the blackout (she and Lloyd were divorced). Olivia tries to dismiss him and Lloyd finally takes the hint and leaves.
At the FBI, Demetri notices Mark’s friendship bracelet and Mark confirms that it’s the same one from his vision. Dem thinks that Mark wants the future to happen by putting on the bracelet, but Mark denies that. Mark thinks Dem is freaking out because he’s worried he’s going to die. Mark asks whether they’ve found the D. Gibbons from his flash and Dem says it’s going to take time. Janis comes in to say that a woman named D. Gibbons just arrived to talk to Demetri.
Didi Gibbons introduces herself to Janis, Stanford, Mark and Demetri. She says that in her flash she was talking on the phone with someone (yelling, actually) and telling them to talk to Agents Benford and Noh. Outside the office, Dem thinks that Didi could be lying. Mark wonders if Didi’s information could be very helpful.
Mark questions Stanford about his flash (him on the toilet) and Stanford finally admits it. Stanford hilariously says he was also on the toilet when the blackout occurred and when he came to he saw a fellow agent drowning with his head in the urinal, so he gave him mouth-to-mouth. It’s funny and gross. Stanford swears Mark to secrecy.
Back at the hospital, Olivia rejoins Charlie and when they walk by Dylan’s room Olivia asks Charlie if she recognizes Lloyd. Charlie says she doesn’t, but I think she recognizes Dylan. Charlie starts asking who hurt Dylan and admits she saw him in her flash.
Back at the FBI, Janis is telling the others about Didi’s background. She mentions a few weird credit card charges. They wonder whether someone had a cloned credit card of Didi’s in Utah. They find a town called “Pidgeon, Utah”, which might be connected to Didi’s flash.
Olivia stops by and tells Mark what happened with Charlie at the hospital. She tells Mark that she doesn’t think Lloyd recognized her. Dem comes by to say they have to head to Pidgeon, Utah.
They arrive in Utah and are greeted by Sherriff Keegan. She says they’re trying to find D. Gibbons. Keegan reveals that she also didn’t see anything, but that doesn’t seem to bother her much.
Back in LA, Anastasia wants to know what they’re doing to find the person in the stadium (or Suspect Zero). Janis explains why she’s convinced it’s a man.
At the hospital, Lloyd goes to chat with Bryce about Dylan. Bryce tries to comfort Lloyd and says he believes that the flashes were a gift.
Mark and Demetri are staking out the bus station in Utah, trying to find D. Gibbons. Keegan annouces that he hasn’t shown up. Demetri’s frustrated by all this and wonders if Mark’s flashes don’t really mean anything. Mark notices a doll factory across the street and wonders if the doll in his vision could be linked.
They enter the old factory and break through a locked door. They see a shadow walking by a window and take out their guns. Keegan is with them. Dolls are hanging from nooses (creepy) and Mark trips a boobytrap. They burst into the room upstairs and see a man there. The man lights a fire and then shoots Keegan. The man escapes as an explosion occurs.
When we come back, FBI agents are now investigating the blast. Keegan is dead and Mark notices that someone has taken the exact photo that was on his wall board in his flash. Demetri thinks the man was a computer hacker and that the man was maybe ruling out possible causes of the blackout. He thinks other people are investigating the causes as well.
Olivia leaves the hospital, holding a sleeping Charlie, and is greeted by Lloyd. She exchanges pleasantries and he says he doesn’t know how to tell Dylan that his mother is dead.
Back in the LA field office, Mark pins up the photo of the doll on his wall board. He looks freaked. At the hospital, Lloyd tells Dylan what happened with his mother. Dylan says he knows that his mother isn’t here. Lloyd tells him how his mother died and says they’re going to be OK. Dylan asks to see Olivia.
At the field office, Janis reveals that D. Gibbons made calls before the blackout, and one was placed 30 seconds into the blackout. She reveals that D. Gibbons was talking to Suspect Zero during the blackout.
Janis is scrolling through the Mosaic site, while Demetri admits that Mark’s clues seem to be panning out. Didi comes by with more cupcakes to say thank you. When she leaves, Janis talks about being pregnant in her flash. Janis posts about her flash on the site. Janis tells Dem that some people think those who didn’t see anything will be asleep. He tells her about Keegan’s lack of vision. Demetri tries to brush off the fact that he hasn’t told his fiance (Zoey). She wonders if he can prevent his death if he knows how it’s supposed to happen and then he posts about it on the site.
Back at home, Olivia comes to the living room to find Mark still up at 3:00 a.m. He tells her Utah was a dead end. We also see that he made a fire to burn the friendship bracelet.
In the parking lot, Demetri gets a call from a woman who says her vision involved him. She says that in her flash, she read that on March 15, 2010, Demetri was murdered. He’s floored.
Mark goes to kiss a sleeping Charlie and she wakes up. She says that she misbehaved at school because the other kids were saying that the flashes were going to come true. Mark says “only the good ones”, but Charlie doesn’t seem to buy it. Mark says the flashes were just a warning, and Charlie says she doesn’t understand hers. She says “D. Gibbons in a bad man”. Fade out.
